Happy New Year Ontario Trainers,
We trust everyone enjoyed some much-deserved time off over the last few weeks.
Here we are though back in the seat and stepping on the gas for training in 2022!
Take a look below to get information on training opportunities that are being offered free
of charge and deal with significant issues for us in emergency services.
PUBLIC SAFETY CANADA TRAINING
Public Safety Canada, in collaboration with the Canadian Explosives and First Responder Communities*, have developed a bilingual training package on the dangers of and recognition of homemade explosives (HME) and Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs). This training package can provide our members with opportunities to expand their knowledge base, specifically in the field of Hazardous Materials/WMD/Terrorism.
Due to the sensitive nature of this material, Public Safety Canada is requiring that this training be delivered over a secure platform to control user access and prevent unauthorized dissemination of the information. Public Safety Canada has contracted this to the Canadian Police Knowledge Network (CPKN) and provided funding for up to 20,000 learners across Canada to access this and other relevant courses for 1-year at no cost to the department.
To participate in this free training opportunity, departments must send one member to an online webinar on 26 January 2022 from 1200 – 1300 EST. This webinar will introduce the course and the CPKN and explain the procedure of enrolling and accessing the course and materials. To sign-up for the webinar, please reply to Dan Kirvan Dan.Kirvan@ottawa.ca with your name, department, email, and phone number.
*Public Safety Canada partners for this project include Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS), Centre of Forensic Sciences, Defence Research and Development, Natural Resources Canada, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), Ottawa Police Services, Ottawa Fire Services, Paramedic Association of Canada, Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), and the Winnipeg Police Services.

OFM Rope Rescue PAC
Hello,
The OFM is moving forward with a new Rope Rescue PAC and hope to have a first meeting in January 2022. We are looking for interested parties to participate. We do get a lot of interest in these PACs and work hard to ensure that there is diverse representation from across Ontario.
In the past, some people have sat on multiple PACs at one time. Moving forward, we will be restricting participation to one PAC at a time to allow more people to participate and also reviewing overall group size to make sure the group is as efficient as possible.
If you are interested in participating with this Rope Rescue PAC, please reply to Michelle.McKain@ontario.ca to express your interest. Please include a short paragraph about why you are interested in working with this group.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Michelle or myself.
Have a great day.
